Mulled wine

Mulled wine is a Christmas party classic, and our homemade version is pepped up with a splash of brandy


Make a glass of fragrant mulled wine, then check out our glühwein, mulled ginmulled beer and more winter cocktails. For a non-alcoholic version, try our mulled tea punch.



  • red wine 1 bottle
  • soft light brown sugar 100g
  • cloves 4
  • cinnamon 2 sticks, plus extra to garnish
  • orange 1, 2 strips of peel, plus extra slices to garnish
  • lemon 1, 2 strips of peel
  • star anise 2
  • brandy 50ml, (optional)


  • Step 1

    Mix togetherall the ingredients (except the brandy, if using) in a large pan and warm over a low heat for 10-15 minutes or until fragrant and steaming but not boiling. Stir in the rum or brandy for the final minute, if using. Ladle into mugs or heatproof glasses, discarding any aromatics.
