Mulled beer

Forget cider and wine, mulled beer is the thing to be drinking this year over the festive season - our recipe has Christmassy flavours of cinnamon, cloves, star anise and clementine

  • honey beer or ale 1 litre (we used Hiver)
  • clear apple juice 300ml
  • calvados or brandy 100ml
  • cinnamon stick 1
  • cloves 5
  • star anise 1
  • lemon ½, zest peeled off in a strip
  • clementines or orange zest peeled off in a strip
  • light muscovado sugar 4-6 tbsp 


  • Step 1

    Put all the ingredients into a pan and bring them slowly to just below a simmer – don’t let the pan boil. Serve in heatproof glasses.
