Hot toddy

Warm up with a hot toddy. This classic winter cocktail combines whisky with honey, lemon and spices. We’ve used the traditional whisky here (single malt will really elevate the drink) but any dark spirit works well – try swapping it for bourbon, dark rum, cognac or calvados, or add a dash of orange or Angostura bitters

  • scotch whisky 45ml
  • runny honey 15ml
  • lemon 1, juiced to make 15ml, plus a slice to garnish
  • cinnamon stick to garnish
  • cloves 2, to garnish
  • star anise to garnish


  • Step 1

    Pre-warm a heatproof glass mug by filling it with just-boiled water and then tipping it out. Combine 150ml of just-boiled water with all of the cocktail ingredients, except the garnishes, in the warm mug. Garnish with the lemon and whole spices.
