Baharat spice blend

  • Easy

Make your own warm, aromatic Middle Eastern blend to liven up meats, fish and soups

  • coriander seeds 2 tsp
  • cumin seeds 1 tbsp
  • whole cloves 1 tsp
  • black peppercorns 1 tbsp
  • cinnamon ½ stick
  • cardamom pods 1 tsp, seed only
  • nutmeg a good grating
  • paprika (not smoked) 2 tbsp

  • Step 1

Put the whole spices in a small pan and heat until fragrant, stirring so they don’t burn. Cool, then grind with a spice grinder or pestle and mortar. Stir in remaining spices and store in an airtight jar.

Kept in a small airtight jar, these spice blends will last for 2 months.
