  • 1 sirloin steak
    trimmed and sliced into thin strips and then each sliced lengthways in 2
  • 2 tbsp cornflour
    mixed with Chinese
  • 1 tsp five-spice
  • oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
    sliced
  • 1cm piece root ginger
    shredded
  • 1 red chilli
    shredded
  • 2 medium carrots
    shredded
  • ¼ dark green cabbage
    shredded
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds
  • to dress ketjap manis or soy sauce

Method

  • step 1

    Toss the beef in the cornflour. Heat a little oil in a wok and when it is nearly smoking, fry the beef until browned. Tip onto a plate.
    Add the garlic and ginger to the wok and toss then add the chilli and carrot and a little oil. Brown the carrot quickly.
    Add the cabbage and sesame seeds and toss, add the beef, toss and serve. Drizzle with ketjap manis.
