Port is too often underrated, associated only with Christmas, but the new initiative by family-owned port producer Churchill’s to create a monthly Port Club brings the various joys of these wonderful fortified wines to a younger audience.

The Port Club boxes can be ordered on their slick website as a one-off for £70, or as a quarterly subscription of changing ports for £240. There's free shipping on orders over £125, or a £10 flat rate for anything less.

Each box contains ports labelled ‘Anytime’ (we had the delicious white port, which is brilliant for summertime drinking when mixed with tonic), ‘The Right Time’ (a wonderful Late Bottled Vintage port from 2005), and ‘One Time’ (unique blends bottled only for Port Club members; ours was a Ruby blend of the 2015 harvest). Top marks for smartly packaged boxes, each containing three different no-choice ports wrapped in tissue paper. The ports come with fun facts, witty tasting notes and tips on how to enjoy them at their best. Members also get special prices at the Port Club online shop, as well as access to Port Support advisors who can answer any questions and help you choose the perfect port for any occasion. Annual members also get access to exclusive vineyard and winery experiences should they find themselves in Porto and/or the Douro Valley in Portugal.

A Port Club membership offers new avenues to explore. Port can be a wonderful thing, and it's far more versatile than you might think.
