Matt Lane began holding beer tastings in a shed in Worcestershire, before going digital and eventually expanding and merging with Yorkshire-based Beer Hawk to create a friendly online community. More beer club than subscription, Beerbods focuses on small-batch brews that have a great story, all shared in the weekly virtual tastings.

Sign-up is simple – just log on to the site, enter your details and you’re part of the club! There’s only one subscription option, which is £24 every other month for eight beers (the price includes one online tasting per week).

The beers arrive in a recyclable cardboard box with allocated sections, along with a branded stemless glass and a pocket-sized pamphlet that tells the story of how Beerbods was born. In our box, we received some unique options, including an Earl Grey IPA from Wild Weather in Reading, Quantock Brewery’s single hop pale, and a Munich lager from Bristol’s Wiper and True.

As well as the four beers each month, you get exclusive access to a weekly online beer tasting that’s informative, informal and interactive. As well as being able to share your own thoughts on the beer of the week, Matt and the team ask people to report back from pubs and beer festivals, and, if the business features a beer you recommend, you get a case for free.

The Beerbods subscription is excellent value for money as you become part of a club as well as trying a range of unique beers with guided tastings. Great for those who want to learn more about beer, as well as becoming part of a community of like-minded beer lovers.
