  • Easy

These baked maple syrup and walnut figs make a great treat when figs are in season. They are served with a quick vanilla mascarpone that you can use as an alternative to cream to accompany lots of desserts.

  • ripe figs 12
  • walnut halves 50g
  • butter 50g, cubed
  • maple syrup 4 tbsp
  • mascarpone or vanilla extract, to serve

  • Step 1

Heat the oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6. Cut a cross into each fig about ¾ of the way down so they fan out a little. Put a cube of butter inside each fig and put in a buttered baking dish.

  • Step 2

Scatter the walnuts over and drizzle with maple syrup. Bake for about 20 minutes, glazing with the syrup and butter. Serve 3 figs per person with a dollop of the vanilla mascarpone.
