How easy is the Nespresso Vertuo Lattissima to use?

After a set-up process that involves testing the water hardness and programming the machine accordingly, the coffee machine is ready to use within 15 minutes. It comes with a helpful manual, plus there are videos available on Nespresso’s website to walk you through each step of the process.

We found the lever to insert the pods a bit stiff at first, but once we’d inserted the pod, the machine was ready to go. Nespresso’s Vertuo machines work by scanning the barcode on the base of your chosen pod, making them very user-friendly.

You can choose from the cappuccino or latte macchiato options, which make use of the milk carafe, or opt to add foamed milk to your espresso. The machine does all the hard work of frothing the milk for you at the touch of a button.

Results

On test, we tried a few different drinks to put the Nespresso Vertuo Lattissima through its paces. For every coffee machine, we test the espresso first, as this is the base of the majority of drinks and allows us to compare the quality of different brews. The espresso produced by this model had a dark colour, with well-balanced acidity and a bubbly crema.

For our cappuccino, we used a 230ml capsule, which made a large drink with a rich coffee flavour, if slightly weaker in strength than we would have liked. The frothed milk was light with a satisfying foam.

If you’re after fuss-free versatility, Nespresso's Vertuo machines are a great place to start. This model is in the middle of its range, with a sleek look and intuitive design that makes it a pleasure to look at as well as use. Although we experienced a few teething problems, an extensive manual plus additional online resources meant all our questions were soon answered.
