These individual sugar-crusted pies have an irresistible filling of spiced apples and are topped with a lattice of sweet shortcrust pastry

Ingredients

  • 375g sheet sweet pastry, cut into 1cm strips
  • egg or milk
  • 2 tbsp demerara sugar
  • 2-3 apples, large cooking
  • 150g caster sugar
  • 1/2 tsp allspice

Method

  • STEP 1

    Heat the oven to 190c/fan 170c/gas 5.
    Divide the apple mixture among 4 individual ovenproof pie dishes.
    Use the pastry strips to make a lattice on each pie and glaze with the egg mix.
    Bake for 20-30 minutes until golden and crisp (sprinkle a little demerara sugar over for the last 5 minutes).
