Edinburgh-based Secret Garden Distillery is on a mission to create a bountiful working relationship with plants, making all-natural gins that are created using the botanicals they grow in their own Secret Herb Garden. Its Gin Club membership comes with a host of benefits; as well as receiving bespoke gin that’s unavailable to any other retailers, you receive discounts and invites to special events.

The distillery’s main aim is to sing about the beauty of nature, and this is evoked in the impressive range of unique flavours you receive throughout the year, including fennel & chamomile, zephirine rose, elderflower & strawberry mint and hollyhock & honey. All of the herbs and botanicals within each gin are grown, hand-picked, dried and infused by the team and the resulting gins are 100% natural; free of chemicals, sugars and flavour compounds. In the subscription, each monthly gin also has a unique, seasonal twist, such as a Red Red Rose for Valentine’s Day.

The ordering process is extremely easy, with monthly rolling or bi-monthly subscriptions and the option to cancel anytime. The pretty cardboard box contained a 20cl batch of limited-edition Orange Blossom gin, paired with a 200ml Fever Tree Indian Tonic Water and a box of Calendula garnish, designed to create the perfect serve. Accompanying this is a letter from founder Hamish, describing in detail the process behind making the gin, as well as a card with a QR code to watch an informative tasting video.

At £25 for a small batch of exclusive gin, tonic and hand-picked garnish, this subscription is well curated and feels like great value for money, particularly considering the time and effort put into each bottle of gin and garnish. It would make for a thoughtful gift for gin aficionados looking to delve a little deeper into the world of gin, or even an indulgent monthly treat all for yourself.
