If you love ordering chilli beef with broccoli in your local Chinese restaurant, then you must try this homemade version. Ready in just 20 minutes, it makes the best midweek supper.

Ingredients

  • oil for frying
  • minute steak or sirloin or cornflour
  • broccoli florets from a small head, sliced

  • garlic 2 cloves, sliced

  • ginger a 5cm piece, finely chopped
  • dried chilli flakes 1 tsp
  • soy sauce or sugar
  • limes 2, juiced

  • spring onions

Method

  • Step 1

    Heat a 5cm depth of oil in a wok until very hot. Fry the steak in batches until dark and crisp. Drain.

  • Step 2

    Pour off most of the oil and stir-fry the broccoli, garlic, ginger and chilli for 1 minute. Tip in the sweetened soy sauce and lime juice and cook for 2 minutes. Finally, toss in the beef and spring onions and serve.
