Our experts have tried and tested vegan collagen powders, capsules and gels to help you find the best plant-based option for skin, hair, nails and joints
Vegan collagen supplements are becoming increasingly popular as an animal-free alternative to traditional bovine collagen and marine collagen. Available as powders, capsules and gels, they use ingredients such as plant protein, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and botanicals to support the body’s natural collagen production.
Some vegan collagen products aim to mimic collagen’s amino acid profile, while others act as collagen builders, supplying nutrients such as vitamin C, zinc, copper and biotin, alongside plant protein.
We tested a selection of vegan collagen supplements for flavour, texture, ease of use, ingredient quality and value for money. Read on to find the best vegan collagen supplements in the UK, including the best powder, capsules, gel and collagen builder for skin and hair growth, as well as joints, healthy ageing and a plant-based diet.

How we tested vegan collagen supplements
We prepared each product according to the manufacturer’s instructions, then assessed how it performed in everyday use. Powders, capsules and gels were reviewed for:
- Taste and texture: whether the flavour was pleasant, balanced and easy to take regularly.
- Ease of use: how simple each product was to mix, measure, swallow or take on the go.
- Formula: whether the product used a collagen alternative, plant protein, vitamins, minerals or botanicals.
- Added ingredients: including vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, zinc, copper, biotin, silica, fruit powders and sweeteners.
- Dietary suitability: vegan status, allergens, sweeteners and suitability for different dietary requirements.
- Packaging and portability: whether the format was practical for home use, travel or busy days.
- Value for money: cost per serving, serving size, formula and overall quality.
- Transparency: how clearly brands listed their ingredients, dosage and any independent or third-party testing.

Shreddy Superglow

Best vegan collagen for skin
Star rating: 5/5
- Format: powder
- Plant-based collagen alternative per serving: 5g VeCollal
- Hyaluronic acid per serving: 100mg
- Daily serving: one 8g scoop mixed with 250ml water
- Pack size: 240g / 30 servings
- Price per serving: £1.33, or £1.13 with subscription
Peach iced tea is an unusual way to take a collagen-support supplement, but it makes this powder easy to work into the day. Instead of animal collagen peptides, each serving uses 5g VeCollal, a plant-based blend of amino acids, botanicals and vitamin C, alongside 100mg hyaluronic acid, zinc and iodine.
We mixed one 8g scoop with 250ml water and found it closer to a light flavoured drink than a thick shake. It was straightforward to prepare, easy to sip during testing and simple to remember as a once-daily serving.
Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin, which supports the skin-focused positioning. However, the individual amino-acid amounts within VeCollal are not disclosed, and sucralose (an artificial sweetener) is included. At £1.33 per serving, it is relatively expensive, although the 5g branded blend, added hyaluronic acid and convenient format give it more substance than a basic vegan collagen-support powder.

DR.VEGAN Skin Saviour

Best vegan collagen for beauty
Star rating: 4.5/5
- Format: capsules
- Vegan collagen alternative: multi-nutrient collagen builder
- Vitamin C per serving: 350mg
- Hyaluronic acid per serving: 150mg
- Daily serving: two capsules
- Pack size: 30-day supply
- Price per serving: 83p, or 71p with subscription
Two capsules replace the usual scoop-and-shake routine, making Skin Saviour one of the easiest vegan collagen alternatives we tested. Rather than supplying collagen or a collagen-style protein blend, it combines 350mg vitamin C with 150mg hyaluronic acid, 10mg zinc and vitamins A and E, selenium and antioxidant-rich botanicals.
We liked how transparent the label is: all 12 active ingredients are individually quantified, including grapeseed, bilberry, green tea and rosehip extracts, plus inulin and five billion live cultures. The capsules were straightforward to take and the compact pouch is much easier to travel with than a large powder tub.
The live cultures mean the capsules should be taken at least 20 minutes away from hot food or drinks. It also lacks the protein and amino acids supplied by some powder-based collagen builders. Still, at 83p per day, the broad formula, clear dosing and 150mg hyaluronic acid make it a strong beauty-focused option.

Feel Pro Collagen
- Available from Feel (£42.79)

Best vegan collagen powder for flavour
Star rating: 4.5/5
- Format: powder
- Plant-based collagen alternative per serving: 5g VeCollal
- Vitamin C per serving: 127mg
- Gotu kola extract per serving: 321mg
- Ginseng extract per serving: 19.3mg
- Daily serving: two teaspoons (10g) mixed with 200–300ml water
- Pack size: 300g / 30 servings
- Price per serving: £1.43, or £1 with subscription
Fruitier than most collagen-support powders, Feel Pro Collagen was easy to add to my routine. The peach flavour tasted light and approachable rather than medicinal, and two teaspoons dissolved in 200-300ml of water drank more like a wellness drink than a thick protein shake.
Each 10g serving provides 5g VeCollal, a plant-based amino acid blend, alongside 321mg gotu kola extract, 19.3mg ginseng extract, 127mg vitamin C and 200mg calcium. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin, while Feel links to published human research on the branded formulation.
The labelling is more transparent than many alternatives, although the individual amino acids inside VeCollal are not quantified. The brand labels it vegan, non-GMO and free from the 14 major allergens, while noting possible cross-contamination at the manufacturing site. The subscription lowers the cost from £1.43 to around £1 per serving, making use easier to justify.

Vivo Life collagen builder
- Available from Vivo Life (£44.99)

Best vegan collagen builder
Star rating: 4.5/5
- Format: powder
- Plant-based collagen alternative per serving: 25g plant protein peptides
- Supporting nutrients: vitamin C, zinc, copper and biotin
- Other key ingredients: hyaluronic acid and bamboo extract
- Daily serving: approximately 38g prepared as a shake
- Pack size: 950g / 25 servings
- Price per serving: £1.80, or £1.35 with the first subscription order
Chocolate gives this more of a post-workout shake feel than a typical beauty supplement. Each serving delivers 25g plant protein peptides, so it can replace a regular protein shake while also supplying nutrients chosen to support the body’s own collagen production.
Alongside protein, the formula includes vitamin C, zinc, copper and biotin, plus hyaluronic acid and bamboo extract. We found the chocolate flavour familiar and easy to drink, although the substantial serving creates a thicker, more protein-like texture than lighter collagen powders. Quality is a standout: it is Vegan Society-certified, made in the UK and third-party tested for heavy metals, pesticides and contaminants.
The £44.99 price is high and the 950g pack provides only 25 servings. Several supporting ingredients are not individually quantified either. Still, the meaningful protein dose, broad formula and strong testing credentials make this one of the most complete vegan collagen builders we have tested overall.

Vivo Life (£44.99 / 950g)
Rheal plant collagen
- Available from Rheal (£30)

Best organic vegan collagen powder
Star rating: 4.5/5
- Format: powder
- Plant-based collagen-support blend per serving: 5g
- Vitamin C per serving: 142mg
- Protein per serving: 1.28g
- Certified organic ingredients: 95%
- Daily serving: one 5g teaspoon
- Pack size: 150g / 30 servings
- Price per serving: £1, or 80p with introductory subscription
Rheal plant collagen contains six ingredients, with 95 per cent of the formula certified organic. One 5g serving provides 142mg vitamin C alongside lucuma, pea protein, pink pitaya, acerola, Astrion and bamboo extract, a source of silica.
We found it more like a fine superfood powder than a sweet collagen drink. During testing, the natural, plant-led flavour worked well stirred into cold water, but blending it into a smoothie made it more enjoyable. Its small serving stayed light rather than becoming thick or chalky.
Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation, while the formula is vegan and independently verified for quality and safety. It does not contain collagen peptides or a collagen-style amino acid profile, and the amounts of Astrion and silica are not disclosed. Even so, the short ingredient list, strong organic credentials and £1 daily cost make it an appealing botanical option for everyday use.

Rheal (£30 / 150g)
Green People Advanced Pro-Collagen Skin Defence
- Available from Green People (£29.50)

Best vegan collagen capsules for mature skin
Star rating: 4.5/5
- Format: capsules
- Plant-based collagen alternative per serving: 1,000mg Vollagen
- Vitamin C per serving: 36mg
- Zinc per serving: 10mg
- Daily serving: two capsules
- Pack size: 50 capsules / 25 servings
- Price per serving: £1.18
Capsules make this a refreshingly simple alternative to powdered collagen builders. The serving of two capsules provides 1,000mg Vollagen, a plant-based complex containing the 18 amino acids found in collagen, alongside vitamin C, zinc, copper and iron. The bottle gives 25 standard servings.
I found the pre-measured format easy to fit around meals, with no scoop, shaker or flavoured drink to finish. Grape seed extract and SOD broaden the formula, while every key active is individually quantified, making the label easier to assess than many proprietary blends.
The amino-acid dose is lower than the multi-gram servings offered by some powders, and the 14mg iron may not suit everyone. Green People’s page also gives conflicting directions, stating both two capsules daily and one to two capsules twice daily, so check the pack before use. Still, the compact format, clear nutrient amounts and skin-focused formula make this a strong choice for mature or menopausal skin.

Green People (£29.50)
Feel Pro Collagen gel
- Available from Feel (£77.94)

Best vegan liquid collagen supplement in a gel format
Star rating: 4/5
- Format: drinkable gel sachet
- Plant-based collagen alternative per serving: 5g VeCollal
- Gotu kola extract per serving: 335mg
- Ginseng extract per serving: 20mg
- Daily serving: one 35g sachet
- Pack size: 30 sachets / 30 servings
- Price per serving: £2.60, or £2 with subscription
Straight from the sachet, this is the most convenient vegan collagen alternative we tested. Each 35g cherry gel delivers 5g VeCollal, plus 335mg gotu kola, 20mg ginseng, 80mg vitamin C, biotin and vitamins A and E. The pre-measured format removes any scooping, shaking or washing up.
The gel felt smooth rather than gritty, with a distinctly flavoured cherry profile that made it very different from a powder-based drink. I could take it at any time, with or without food, and the individual sachets slipped easily into a handbag or suitcase.
Convenience comes at a sizeable premium. A 30-day box costs £77.94, or about £2.60 per serving, and creates more packaging than a tub. The subscription brings this down to around £2 per day. Still, the substantial 5g serving, clearly quantified supporting ingredients and genuinely portable format make it a standout for busy days and travel. It stores neatly at home.

Feel (£77.94 / 30 sachets)
Jeunvie collagen powder
- Available from Jeunvie (£25.30)

Best vegan collagen powder supplement for joints
Star rating: 4/5
- Format: powder
- Vegan collagen alternative: plant-based collagen-building protein-peptide formula
- Supporting ingredients: vitamin C and hyaluronic acid
- Daily serving: one 6g scoop
- Pack size: approximately 33 servings
- Price per serving: £1.53 at RRP, or 77p at the sale price
A joint-focused angle gives this powder a different feel from the beauty-led blends. The vegan formula combines a plant-based protein-peptide base with vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, while the light vanilla flavour made it easy to turn into a daily drink.
One 6g scoop provides the full serving, so there is no need to take several capsules. I found the texture lighter than a protein shake and straightforward to prepare, although the listing does not disclose the amounts of vitamin C, hyaluronic acid or individual active ingredients.
It falls short in transparency. Jeunvie describes the formula as suitable for vegans, but it is designed to support collagen production rather than supplying conventional collagen. The online pack information is also inconsistent, which makes the value harder to assess confidently. At £50.60 it feels expensive, though the half price offer cuts the daily cost from around £1.53 to roughly 77p per serving.

Jeunvie (£25.30)
What is vegan collagen?
Vegan collagen is a broad term used for products designed to support collagen production without animal ingredients. Traditional collagen supplements are made from bovine, marine or other animal sources, while vegan formulas use alternatives such as amino acids, plant protein, vitamin C, minerals or botanicals.
Some products use a plant-based collagen alternative designed to mimic the amino acid profile of human collagen. Others are collagen builders, providing protein and nutrients that help support the body’s own collagen production.
There is no naturally occurring plant food that contains animal collagen, but newer vegan collagen alternatives are being developed using fermentation and bioengineering. If you’re looking for the best vegan collagen alternative, check the full ingredient list and whether the product contains a defined collagen alternative or a broader plant-based nutrient blend.
What is the best vegan collagen?
We chose Shreddy Superglow, as the best vegan collagen supplement for skin and skin elasticity. It contains a plant-based collagen alternative alongside hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, zinc and iodine. The peach iced tea flavour was refreshing and easy to drink daily.
Feel vegan collagen powder is another strong option for skin-focused routines and was one of the best-tasting vegan collagen powders we tested. Feel Pro Collagen gel provide a similar collagen alternative in a portable format for anyone who wants a vegan liquid collagen supplement that can be taken without mixing.
DR.VEGAN Skin Saviour is a capsule-based vegan collagen booster supplement containing nutrients and plant extracts aimed at supporting skin, hair and nails.
Jeunvie collagen powder is designed to be mixed into drinks and is suited to people looking for a vegan collagen powder supplement for joints, muscles and recovery. Vivo Life collagen builder provides a larger plant-protein serving, making it the best vegan collagen protein powder for people who want additional nutritional support.
Rheal plant collagen is a plant-based powder containing pea protein, acerola, bamboo silica and Astrion and is a good choice for anyone searching for the best organic vegan collagen powder.
What are the benefits of vegan collagen?
The potential benefits of a vegan collagen supplement depend on its ingredients. A product may help increase your intake of protein, vitamin C or minerals involved in normal collagen production, but this does not guarantee improvements in wrinkles, sagging skin, hair growth or joint symptoms.
Research into vegan collagen builders is still limited. One small 60-day clinical study involving 63 adults reported improvements in several skin, hair, muscle and joint measures after using a named vegan collagen-builder formula. However, the findings were product-specific and cannot be taken as proof that every vegan collagen supplement will produce the same effects.
The best vegan sources of collagen are not foods that contain collagen itself, as plants do not naturally contain animal collagen. Instead, choose protein-rich foods such as tofu, tempeh, beans, lentils, peas, nuts, seeds and wholegrains. The best vegan food for collagen production also includes vitamin C-rich foods such as peppers, citrus fruit, kiwi, berries, tomatoes and broccoli.
Side effects are more likely to come from the wider formula than from vegan collagen itself. Powders, capsules and gels containing sweeteners, acids, botanicals or high levels of vitamins and minerals may cause digestive discomfort, nausea, bloating or diarrhoea in some people.
High intakes of vitamin C or zinc can also cause unwanted effects, so avoid combining several products without checking the total daily amount.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking prescription medication or managing a medical condition, speak to your GP or pharmacist before starting a supplement.
