Our experts have tried and tested marine collagen powders, liquids, gels and shots to help you find the best option for skin, hair and joint support

Marine collagen has become a fixture in beauty and wellness routines, from powders stirred into your morning coffee to quick shots taken before breakfast. But with powders, sachets, gels and ready-to-drink liquids all promising different benefits, choosing one can feel like a guessing game.

Made from fish skin or scales, marine collagen is broken down into smaller collagen peptides that are easier for the body to absorb. Some products also contain vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, biotin or antioxidants.

As collagen production naturally declines with age, supplements are often marketed for skin elasticity, hair, joints and healthy ageing. Research into oral collagen peptides suggests they may modestly support skin hydration and elasticity, although much of the evidence looks at collagen peptides generally rather than marine collagen specifically.

So, which products are actually worth the money? Whether you want marine collagen for your skin, hair, joints, mature skin, athletic recovery or a pescatarian diet, the best choice will depend on more than the claims on the tub. Dose, taste, texture, ingredients, ease of use and price all matter.

We tested a range of marine collagen supplements, including Absolute Collagen, Hunter & Gather, New Nordic, Rejuvenated Collagen Shots and Revive Collagen. As part of the testing process, our experts assessed flavour, texture, ease of use, ingredient quality and value for money, with products available from Boots, Holland & Barrett and Superdrug, as well as directly from brands and online supplement stores.

We prepared each product according to the manufacturer’s instructions, then assessed how it performed in everyday use. Powders, liquids, gels, sachets and shots were reviewed for:

Best marine collagen supplements to buy in 2026

Absolute Collagen marine collagen liquid drink

Absolute Collagen Marine Collagen Liquid Drink

Best overall marine collagen supplement

Star rating: 5/5

Packing 8g of hydrolysed marine collagen into a 10ml sachet, this is unusually concentrated for such a compact format. Each serving also provides 7.7g protein, 36 calories and up to 120mg vitamin C, which contributes to normal collagen formation. The brand reports a 12-week, placebo-controlled study involving 130 participants.

There is nothing to measure: tear open one sachet and drink it neat, or add it to food or a drink. Mango and pineapple, raspberry and tangy lemon flavours are available. We liked how portable and mess-free the sachets felt, although they create more packaging than a tub.

Price is the main drawback. At £2.43 per serving, it is among the costlier options. The fish species, tissue source and collagen type are not disclosed, and explicit finished product heavy metal results are not published. Even so, the dose, vitamin C and effortless format make this our best all-round marine collagen supplement.

Available from:
Absolute Collagen (£33.99)

Hunter & Gather Mixed Berry Rise & Glow Collagen Daily Beauty Tonic

Hunter & Gather Mixed Berry Rise & Glow Collagen

Best flavoured marine collagen

Star rating: 4.5/5

The mixed berry flavour makes this feel more like a beauty tonic than a standard collagen powder. Each 13g serving provides 5g hydrolysed type I marine collagen, 40mg vitamin C and 120mg hyaluronic acid, while real berry ingredients give it a naturally fruity profile without added sugar or sweeteners.

I prepared it by mixing one heaped tablespoon with a little water, stirring well, then topping up the glass. The flavour was brighter and more enjoyable than the neutral marine powders tested, although thorough mixing was needed to prevent residue sinking to the bottom, as it's a large serving of powder.

At £1.83 per serving, it costs more than a basic collagen-only product, but the added vitamin C and hyaluronic acid strengthen its skin-focused appeal. It is made in the UK by a certified B Corp and comes in recyclable packaging. The fish species, tissue source and geographical origin are not disclosed, and no explicit contaminant testing information is provided.

Available from:
Bodykind (£41.99)

New Nordic Collagen Shot

New Nordic Collagen Shot

Best ready-to-drink marine collagen

Star rating: 4.5/5

Ready-to-drink convenience is the standout here. Each 15ml sachet supplies 5g hydrolysed marine collagen from Atlantic cod, plus 75mg vitamin C and 100mcg biotin. The box contains 15 daily servings, with no weighing, stirring or shaker required.

We found the slim sachets handy for work, gym bags and travel. They can be taken straight from the packet or added to another drink, while cranberry, raspberry, blueberry and lemon create the natural berry flavour.

At Holland & Barrett’s current sale price, each serving costs £1.55, rising to £2.07 at RRP. This is more expensive than many powders, and the individual portions create extra packaging. The fish tissue source and raw material region are not disclosed, while clear finished product heavy metal testing information is also missing. Even so, the useful collagen dose and effortless format make it our best ready-to-drink option.

Available from:
Holland & Barrett (£23.24)

Rejuvenated Collagen Shots

Rejuvenated Collagen Shots

Best marine collagen powder for skin

Star rating: 4.5/5

Skin is the focus of this high-dose powder. A full serving provides 10g hydrolysed marine collagen from sustainably sourced wild fish, alongside vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, açai, B vitamins, zinc and copper. The collagen is described as naturally rich in type I, suiting its beauty-led positioning.

We liked the flexible serving: use a full scoop or heaped tablespoon for 10g collagen, or half for a lighter 5g dose. The neutral powder can be stirred into hot or cold drinks, smoothies, yoghurt or porridge, so it slipped into breakfast without requiring a shake.

At £1.75 per full serving, it is premium but reasonable for the collagen quantity, falling to £1.40 on subscription. Rejuvenated reports a 60-day study on the finished formula, although full methodology is not supplied. The fish species, tissue source, raw material origin and contaminant testing are undisclosed, but the substantial dose and skin-focused extras make this a beauty option.

Available from:
Rejuvenated (£52.50)

Doctor Seaweed Collagen+

Doctor Seaweed Collagen+

Best marine collagen with seaweed

Star rating: 4.5/5

Seaweed takes a starring role here. Each serving pairs 5g hydrolysed type I marine collagen from wild-caught Norwegian cod with PureSea Protect, an organic seaweed ingredient harvested from the Scottish Outer Hebrides. It also provides 37.5mcg iodine, equal to 25 per cent of the NRV.

We found the unflavoured powder easy in coffee, tea or cold drinks, with no sweetener or strong flavour competing with what we were already drinking. One heaped teaspoon makes the daily dose, while the choice of a glass jar or refill pouch adds flexibility.

At £1.47 per serving, it is fairly expensive for 5g collagen, although the introductory subscription cuts this to about 73p for the first three months. There is no added vitamin C, and the fish tissue source and finished product contaminant testing are not disclosed. Even so, the traceable Norwegian cod, Scottish seaweed and clearly quantified iodine make this our best marine collagen with seaweed.

Available from:
Doctor Seaweed (£44)

Correxiko marine collagen powder

Correxiko Marine Collagen Powder

Best high-strength marine collagen powder

Star rating: 4.5/5

Strength is the headline here. One 10g scoop delivers 10g double-hydrolysed marine collagen peptides from Canadian wild-caught fish, with types I and III identified. The single-ingredient formula contains no flavours, sweeteners, fillers or preservatives, suiting those who want a straightforward high-dose powder.

We found the neutral powder easy to add to coffee, smoothies or food. It can look lumpy at first, but stirring well or resting it briefly helped it dissolve. The supplied scoop keeps dosing simple, while the 1kg tub provides 100 servings and means fewer reorders.

At the £89 price, each serving costs 89p, falling to 79p with subscription, which is strong value for 10g collagen. Correxiko also publishes a certificate of analysis, adding transparency. The fish species and tissue source are not disclosed, and there is no added vitamin C. Even so, the dose, pack size and simple formula make this our best high-strength marine collagen powder.

Available from:
Correxiko (£89)

JSHealth Vitamins Vitality X + collagen powder

JSHealth Vitamins Vitality X + Collagen Powder

Best marine collagen powder with added nutrients

Star rating: 4/5

This is one of the most comprehensive marine collagen powders we tested. Each 6g scoop provides 3g hydrolysed collagen from sustainably sourced, wild-caught, deep sea cod skin, alongside 200mg vitamin C, zinc, vitamin E, astaxanthin, silica, glycine, glutamine, quercetin and several botanicals.

The Citrus Tropical flavour works best as a standalone cold drink rather than something stirred into coffee. We found one level scoop easy to mix into water or a smoothie, although the formula needs thorough stirring because it contains far more than collagen alone.

The main drawback is value. The tub contains 30 servings, but the directions recommend one scoop twice daily, so it lasts only 15 days and costs around £2.67 per day. Still, the traceable cod skin source, MSC-certified sourcing and broad nutrient blend make it a strong all-in-one daily beauty option.

Available from:
JSHealth Vitamins (£39.99)

Gold Collagen Pure Plus

Gold Collagen Pure Plus

Best marine collagen liquid for skin hydration

Star rating: 4/5

Gold Collagen Pure turns the powder routine into a ready-to-drink 50ml shot. Each bottle delivers 5g hydrolysed marine collagen from tilapia fish skin, alongside 80mg vitamin C, 20mg hyaluronic acid, zinc, biotin, vitamin E, B6 and copper. That combination gives it a clear skin-hydration and beauty focus.

We found the pre-measured bottles extremely convenient: shake, drink and go, with no scoop, shaker or residue to deal with. The liquid format also keeps the serving consistent, although the glass bottles are heavier and bulkier than sachets when travelling.

The drawback is cost. A £39 pack contains only 10 servings, so daily use works out at £3.90, making this one of the most expensive products tested.

Available from:
Gold Collagen (£39)

Revive Collagen premium liquid marine collagen drink

Revive Collagen Premium Liquid Marine Collagen Drink

Best ready-to-drink marine collagen sachets

Star rating: 4/5

Convenience is where Revive Collagen stands out. Each citrus sachet is ready to drink and supplies 8.5g hydrolysed type I marine collagen, 8.5g protein and 36 calories, alongside 50mg hyaluronic acid and 50mg aloe vera extract. There is no scoop, shaker or water required.

We found the premixed liquid smooth and easy to finish, with Mexican lime and Sicilian lemon extracts giving it a citrus profile. The individual portions made the daily dose simple to track and easy to carry to work or while travelling, although they create more packaging than a tub.

At £36.99, the 14-day box costs £2.64 per serving, but regular discounts improve the value. The fish species, tissue and geographical origin are not disclosed, and there is no added vitamin C or published independent contaminant testing. Even so, the substantial collagen dose and effortless format make these our best ready-to-drink marine collagen sachets.

Available from:
Holland & Barrett (£27.74)

Sixways wild marine collagen – raspberry

Sixways Wild Marine Collagen – Raspberry

Best marine collagen powder with probiotics

Star rating: 4/5

A probiotic is the unusual extra here, setting Sixways apart from standard marine collagen powders. Each 7g serving provides 5g hydrolysed type I collagen from sustainably sourced wild-caught Atlantic fish, plus one billion CFU Lactobacillus acidophilus, 320mg vitamin C, 20mg hyaluronic acid, zinc and vitamin A.

We tested the raspberry flavour, blending one tablespoon with 200ml water. It can also be added to milk, smoothies or breakfast bowls, giving the powder more flexibility than a ready-to-drink shot. The pouch contains 28 servings and is recyclable.

At £1.54 per serving, it is reasonably priced for a multi-ingredient formula, although rivals provide more collagen for a similar cost. It also contains retinol, so it is not suitable during pregnancy without medical advice. Still, the clearly quantified probiotic makes this our best marine collagen powder with probiotics.

Available from:
Sixways (£42.99)

Other marine collagen supplements we tested

OQO marine collagen powder sachets, (£35.99) – 3.5/5 stars

What is marine collagen?

Marine collagen is collagen sourced from fish, usually from the skin or scales. It is commonly hydrolysed, meaning it has been broken down into smaller peptides that dissolve more easily in drinks.

Marine collagen is not suitable for vegans and should be avoided by anyone with a fish allergy. If you follow a pescatarian diet, check the full ingredient list carefully, as some products may contain other animal-derived ingredients.

What is the best type of marine collagen?

The best type of marine collagen depends on the dose, source, format and ingredients you are looking for. Hydrolysed marine collagen peptides are available in powders, liquids, gels, sachets and shots, so the most suitable option is often the one you can take consistently.

For a liquid format, Absolute Collagen Marine Liquid Collagen Supplement may suit anyone who does not want to mix a powder. New Nordic Collagen Shot Sachets offer another convenient option for travelling, while Correxiko Marine Collagen Powder is a simple powder that can be added to drinks or food.

Look for a clearly stated collagen dose, transparent allergen information and a format that fits your routine. Flavoured powders, such as Sixways Raspberry Flavour Marine Collagen, may be easier to take regularly if you prefer a sweeter drink.

What are the benefits of marine collagen?

Marine collagen provides collagen peptides and amino acids, but it is digested before the body uses them. It is not delivered directly to the skin, hair or joints.

Research into oral collagen peptides is mixed. Some studies have reported modest improvements in skin hydration and elasticity, although a recent systematic review found that the apparent benefits were less consistent in higher quality and independently funded studies. There is currently not enough evidence to say that marine collagen prevents skin ageing or produces dramatic cosmetic results.

Some people also take collagen to support joint comfort. An updated review of randomised trials found improvements in pain and function among people with knee osteoarthritis, although collagen should not be viewed as a replacement for medical assessment or treatment.

Some products contain additional ingredients, such as the seaweed in Doctor Seaweed Collagen+. These extras may appeal to some people, but a longer ingredient list does not automatically mean a product will be more effective.

Is marine collagen good for skin, hair and joints?

Marine collagen may offer modest support for skin hydration and elasticity, but the evidence is not conclusive and results are unlikely to be the same for everyone. A product such as Rejuvenated Collagen Shots may appeal if you prefer a convenient, skin-focused format, while JSHealth Vitality X + Collagen Nourish + Glow can be blended into a smoothie.

There is less evidence that collagen supplements improve hair growth or prevent hair loss. Hair changes can have many causes, including nutritional deficiencies, hormonal changes and medical conditions, so persistent or sudden hair loss should be discussed with a GP.

For joints, research suggests collagen peptides may help reduce pain or improve function for some people with osteoarthritis. However, marine collagen is not a cure for joint problems and should be considered alongside, rather than instead of, appropriate treatment and exercise.

Do I need vitamin C with marine collagen?

No, not necessarily. Vitamin C is required for normal collagen formation, but most people can obtain enough from a varied diet. In the UK, adults aged 19 to 64 need around 40mg of vitamin C a day, which can be found in foods such as peppers, citrus fruit, strawberries, broccoli and potatoes.

Some collagen products contain added vitamin C, while others do not. Check the label rather than automatically taking a separate supplement. If you are comparing a broader blend such as Hunter & Gather Rise and Glow Collagen with a simpler product such as OQO collagen powder, compare the full nutrition and ingredient panels to see what is included.
