Try this gouda and chilli jam french toast, then check out our classic french toast.


  • 2 eggs
  • a splash whole milk
  • ½ tsp mustard powder
  • 4 slices white sourdough
  • 4 slices gouda, plus 2-3 tbsp extra grated to cook
  • 2 tbsp chilli jam
  • 1 tbsp of each vegetable oil and unsalted butter


  • STEP 1

    Whisk together the eggs, milk, mustard powder and some seasoning, and tip into a baking dish.

  • STEP 2

    Make two sandwiches with the bread, cheese and chilli jam. Dip the sandwiches in the egg mix on both sides to coat.

  • STEP 3

    Heat the oil and butter in a large frying pan over a medium-high heat. Add the sandwiches and cook for 2-3 minutes each side until golden. Sprinkle over the grated cheese, then flip the sandwiches over so the cheese becomes crusty, then do the same to the other side.
