Many brands of shop-bought puff pastry use vegetable oil instead of butter, making it accidentally vegan, but always check the ingredients before purchasing.

Ingredients

  • block of ready-rolled puff pastry (ensure it's dairy-free – we used Jus-Rol puff pastry)
  • 1 tbsp cranberry sauce
  • pinch of Chinese five-spice
  • 12 vegan cocktail sausages (we used THIS Isn't Pork plant-based cocktail sausages)
  • 1 tsp unsweetened soya or oat milk
  • pinch of nigella seeds

Method

  • STEP 1

Heat the oven to 190C/170C fan/gas 5 and line a baking tray with baking paper.

  • STEP 2

Slice the puff pastry into 12 5cm x 2cm strips and lay onto a clean worksurface. In a small mixing bowl, stir together the cranberry sauce and Chinese five spice. Use a pastry brush to spread the sauce over one side of the pastry strips.

  • STEP 3

Put a vegan cocktail sausage into the centre of each strip, then wrap the pastry around the sausage. Put each pig in a duvet onto the lined baking tray, and brush with a little soya milk. Sprinkle with a pinch of nigella seeds, then bake in the oven for 12-15 mins or until the pastry is golden.
