Winter stir-fry

Stir-fry is our fall back meal when we're hungry and want our dinner in a hurry. Mix it up a little with this winter stir-fry featuring steak, dark green cabbage and root ginger.

Ingredients

  • sirloin steak 1, trimmed and sliced into thin strips and then each sliced lengthways in 2
  • cornflour 2 tbsp, mixed with Chinese
  • five-spice 1 tsp
  • oil
  • garlic 2 cloves, sliced
  • root ginger 1cm piece, shredded
  • red chilli 1, shredded
  • carrots 2 medium, shredded
  • dark green cabbage ¼, shredded
  • sesame seeds 2 tsp
  • ketjap manis or soy sauce to dress

Method

  • Step 1

    Toss the beef in the cornflour. Heat a little oil in a wok and when it is nearly smoking, fry the beef until browned. Tip onto a plate.

    Add the garlic and ginger to the wok and toss then add the chilli and carrot and a little oil. Brown the carrot quickly.

    Add the cabbage and sesame seeds and toss, add the beef, toss and serve. Drizzle with ketjap manis.
