Spirited Awards results 2015: London at the center of the international bar scene

London cleaned-up over the weekend at the prestigious Spirited Awards, part of the annual Tales of the Cocktail exhibition in New Orleans. Check out the winners below.

London bars and personalities dominated over the weekend at this year’s prestigious Spirited Awards. Held annually at the Tales of the Cocktail exhibition in New Orleans, many people in the industry consider it to be the Oscars of the cocktail world.

Artesian at the Langham Hotel beat stiff competition to be named best international cocktail bar. Alex Kratena, Simone Caporale and their team are renouned for pushing the boundaries and consistently coming up with exciting, innovative serves. Their latest menu, inspired by surrealism, is available now.

For Ryan Chetiywardana (aka Mr Lyan of White Lyan and DandeLyan), it was a double-win, taking home both international bartender of the year and best new international cocktail bar for DandeLyan. Set in the Mondrian hotel on the south bank, the menu at DandeLyan is inspired by ‘modern botany’, so expect some very clever bartending. This is the second year running that Ryan has scooped up this award, winning it in 2014 for White Lyan.

Unfortunately The Black Pearl & The Attic in Melboune (best international high volume cocktail bar), and 28 Hong Kong Street, Singapore (best international bar team) stood in the way of a clean sweep, but in total, London came away having won six out of the eight international awards up for grabs. The other three being for best international hotel bar (Beaufort Bar at The Savoy); best international restaurant bar (Blind Pig at Social Eating House); and best international brand ambassador, Claire Smith-Warner for her work with Belvedere vodka.

It seems that all eyes are on London for the best, most ground-breaking bartending at the moment, and we couldn’t agree more. For a full list of all this year’s winners, see below.
